Whale Watching with Elding & Christmas Walking tour with New Moments

This cultural and gastronomic walking tour of Reykjavík is a wonderful alternative to your traditional city sightseeing tour and will get you into a true Christmas mood! Discover downtown Reykjavík with us in an intimate and informative way!

Available: Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December.
Time: Starts 09:00
Duration: 7-8 hrs. total
During your Reykjavík Christmas Walk we offer you an insight into Icelandic Christmas traditions, old and new, as well as telling you about the history, art and architecture, culture and cuisine of the city. Our guide will welcome you, dressed in Iceland’s national costume to set the mood for this cultural and festive experience. You’ll wander through the city centre beautifully decorated for Christmas with twinkling Christmas lights everywhere, making stops at several interesting locations along the way. At each one you’ll get a little taste of Iceland such as the very traditional fermented shark and dried fish as well as our Christmas favorites like malt ale that is a must on every Christmas table. We will visit the Settler´s exhibition that houses the oldest ruins of a Viking farm in Iceland and Reykjavik oldest cemetery for some magical rune reading. Finally a nice way to end the tour as everyone will receive a little Christmas gift – a lovely souvenir of Iceland and this Christmas moment.
After discovering downtown Reykjavík during Christmas time, the whale watching pick up bus will collect you at the designated pickup place taking you back to the harbour area or you can walk back to catch the tour starting at 13:00.
You will then head out for the adventure on the water, exploring the wonders of the whales and seabirds Faxaflói offers. Winter whale watching is a whole other experience and adventure compared to our summer tours. Each year continues to surprise us with the wildlife it offers. The winter low lying sun is also something not to be missed, as it casts a warm glow over the white-capped mountains surrounding the bay and to breathe in the winter’s fresh yet crisp air is just incredible. Herring and Capelin being the main prey available, attracting Humpback whales, Killer whales/Orcas, White-beaked dolphins and Harbour porpoises to our shores. The weather and thus sea conditions can be challenging during the winter months, but we adapt by moving our vessels to harbours of more sheltered areas situated around the Reykjanes peninsula and transport our passengers there free of charge from our base in the Old Harbour. Our experience and flexibility allows for a more comfortable and reliable winter whale watching adventure. Going from other harbours means that we may need to take a coach that can be anywhere from 20-60 min., where we can expect the duration of the tour to be around 3-5 hrs. total.
