Snowmobile
Snowmobile during the day
We will be riding by snowmobile to the little hunter settlement north of Ilulissat – Oqaatsut. With it’s approximately 40 inhabitants it is truly a charming site to visit. The snowmobile guided tour takes about 3 hours and it starts in front of the Hotel Arctic. It will follow the old trail going north, crossing lakes, frozen fjords and hill with an amazing view of the Disko Island and the Disko bay. You will cross the frozen sea to reach Oqaatsut (It’s a one hour snowmobile drive from Ilulissat). In Oqaatsut you will take a break and enjoy coffee or tea, eat snacks and discover the traditional settlement and the inhabitants’ way of living.
On your way back to Ilulissat you will take a different route and explore the backcountry, passing frozen waterfalls, dramatic rock cliffs and enjoy the view of the perfect winter world.

Do you want the opportunity to experience Northern lights whilst in Greenland? On nights with clear sky, it is possible to spot the amazing sight of Northern lights dancing across the sky. The story told by the Greenlanders is that it is the souls of our ancestors playing soccer with a seal head. If you whistle, the northern light will grow and they will come down to earth and take your head to play soccer with it. If this story has not scared you off the 2 hour tour will start in front of Hotel Arctic. You will drive to the Big Akinnaq range and cross the upper lakes to the Nalluarsuk hut (40 min from Ilulissat by snow mobile). Inside the warm heated hut you will take a break and drink some coffee or tea and have a look out for the northern light through the window or from outside the terrace.

Go ice cruising between icebergs of all kinds of shapes and sizes, turn off the engine and sit and observe the stunning natural beauty all around in amazing silence.
Icefjord cruise
We sail out before into the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ilulissat Icefjord, where all the amazing icebergs are. Even in the winter this is an amazing boat tour and you will be able to get close (as close as the captain allows, due to safety distance) to the gigantic icebergs and see all the blue, grey and white nuances in the ice. Even if it is cloudy the different nuances of the icebergs will be breathtaking. For a few hours, you will be able to get lost in the beautiful view and leave all worries behind and just take in thousand-year-old ice floating by your eyes. Depending on the company, the captain will cut the engine, a guide will tell you a few facts about the ice, and you will be able to ask questions.
